Got the email notification for this while reading and set it aside. Five seconds later thought, "you know what? That's my 2026 base reading plan right there," and jumped in. Very excited for this! Thank you for organizing this!
This is so exciting!!! I’ve read a couple of these books, but thematically reading and considering them all together is definitely going to be an experience.
Execellent selections Jared! I'll recommend your 2026 book club to my readers who'll certainly resonate with your chosen theme. My husband Peco and I published an "Unmachined Words" list a couple of years ago (and recently updated it) that built on recommendations from Mary Harrington, Paul Kingsnorth, and reader recommendations. For those who would like some additional reads it might be of interest. https://schooloftheunconformed.substack.com/p/unmachined-words-a-mostly-non-fiction
Glad to see your thoughts about technology coming more and more into fruition. Your previous book recommendations from your videos have been great choices and the videos show how much you care about what you do. I am looking forward to the experience and to developing new perspectives from the material.
Fantastic timing! Several of these are on a list I created to make sense of the rapid changes we've seen over the past decade. I can't wait to get to read other's thoughts on these along the way.
First time commenting here. Thank you Jared for everything that you do; this would be the first book club that I can participate in and get to understand the world and its inhabitants a little better.
Hope to engage in insightful conversations with everyone!
I can appreciate that. I’ll likely start and go from there, to be honest. Thank you for all the effort you put into your Substack and YT (where I ‘discovered’ you).
Jared, excellent program! The theme is clear and focused; and yet provocative and far-reaching. The reading list is extremely well thought out--diversified, challenging, and accommodating of a wide range of interests and backgrounds. As expected, there are items I really want to read, and others I really don't want to. But, as you said, the ideal experience is to stay with the program and read all of them. So I'll try my best. Nevertheless, reading one book a month is not easy for me; so I'm a bit nervous.
This is awesome, and a clearly timely topic I'm excited to explore more. Sorry I haven't participated much this year. I plan to the remainder of the year as much as time allows (my job situation has been mercurial this year and is starting to steady finally), but I'm definitely excited to join this conversation next year.
I've never read any of these writers except for Eggers, and that was his debut novel I read in high school 15 years ago (loved it, though -- I remember thinking he is a naturally extremely talented writer), but a number I have been hearing more about and wanting to explore, so this takes care of that!
Very excited for this! It hits a particular area of interest for me, especially since I'm a part of a generation that grew up online and I'm constantly wondering the extent of its impact on us and the potential impacts on future generations. Will be joining!
I've been on and off the paid tier because I haven't put effort into keeping up. This post got me very excited and I'm committing to 2026. I want to read more, I want to think more deeply. I appreciate all that you do and hope that 2026 is a year of growth with you being a nice motivator. 🙂

Couldn't have picked a topic I'd be more interested in a book club for. Hyped!

What a list dude. Total heater in June too.
I figured you'd love the Taylor pick. It's an essential book for this and a slew of other topics.
These are all great topics. Might have to join!

Will be sure to follow along!
This looks so good! I'm definitely subscribing, good job Jared!!

I don’t know if I’ll join for all the months but I do know that the value you bring to me as a novice, was well worth the annual subscription.
The ideal experience is to read everything, but by breaking it up by month I’ve made it easier for people to drop in as they are able.
I can appreciate that. I’ll likely start and go from there, to be honest. Thank you for all the effort you put into your Substack and YT (where I ‘discovered’ you).
Looking forward to 2026 already – I love the timely theme and how you’ve orchestrated the selection of books
